Akkineni Nageswara Rao turns 87

Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Dadasaheb Phalke awardee and popular romantic star of yesteryear in the Telugu film industry, celebrated his 87 th birthday here on Monday.

Greetings pour in

A steady stream of visitors comprising senior actors, directors and producers greeted ANR, as he is popular, from 8.30 a.m. Prominent among them were D. Rama Naidu, T. Subbarami Reddy, actors Vijaychander and Sivakrishna apart from the thespian's family who spent a better part of the day at his residence.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah greeted Mr. Nageswara Rao and wished him a long, healthy life. In a message, he observed that it was a matter of pride for Telugus that ANR reached pinnacle of glory in acting and emerged as a humanist and philanthropist with values

On Sunday, Rama Nageswara Rao, a fan of the star from Tenali for the past six decades, honoured actress-turned-MLA Jayasudha, senior actor Raavikonda Rao and cinematographer S. Gopal Reddy with awards in the name of ANR for their services to the industry.
