72,531 bogus white ration cards weeded out in Hyderabad

Prior to the Food Security Cards (FSC) being announced, the Chief Rationing Office (CRO), Hyderabad district had managed to weed out 72,531 bogus white ration cards from more than six lakh white cards, and had achieved 99.98 per cent seeding with the Aadhaar card database.

With the introduction of FSC cards, the CRO now has to ensure that they are also free of bogus applications. Also, data to cross-check data, findings of the Intensive Household Survey (IHS) was used, and in case an applicant’s details were not found, then an entry was done in the IHS database, mentioned an official from the CRO’s office.

Till applicants receive the FSC, he or she can use their existing white ration cards, and once the FSC is activated, then these ration cards will be deactivated. All data will be entered in the electronic public distribution system (EPDS) database. In Hyderabad district, there are about 6.99 lakh white ration cards, which contain names of more than 28 lakh people.

The CRO’s office, which began weeding out bogus white ration cards and seeding it with the Aadhar database, is also able to save or prevent wastage at its Fair Price Shops in the city, thanks to the Electronic-Public Distribution System (E-PDS) and Electronic Point of Service (POS) systems in place.
