The efforts to rescue the child had started from 8 pm on Thursday using different methods.

It was a tragic end for little Chinnari as mutilated body of the 18-month-old girl was retrieved from the borewell on Sunday, after the 72-hour uninterrupted rescue operations were unsuccessful.

At around 6.30 a.m., the rescue teams found her body 40-feet deep in the borewell, contrary to their earlier surmises that she could have slipped further down and got stuck at 200 feet or below. From Saturday late night, rescue teams began drilling the borewell by enhancing its circumference.

They started covering borewell sides with casing pipes so that mud would not fall. “In that process, some body parts were retrieved at 40 feet. It was followed by flushing out water that accumulated in the 450 feet deep borewell due to rain for past three days,” said a police officer coordinating rescue operations at Ekkareddyguda in Chevella of Ranga Reddy district, 50 km from here.

While flushing, the entire mutilated body was retrieved. “Despite our efforts to save the girl from Thursday night, we couldn’t succeed,” said Telangana Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy, who had been camping there for past three days.
