473 students get their degrees from IIIT-H

Celebrating achievement: Graduates celebrating after receiving their degrees from the IIIT-H in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Highest ever number of students since the establishment of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad) received their degrees at the Convocation held on Saturday.

Out of the 473 students who were awarded their degree certificates this year there were 84 research students, including 16 Ph.Ds. Chief executive officer of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories G.V. Prasad delivered the convocation address while chairman of the Governing Council Raj Reddy presided.

Gautam Vepa, B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was awarded the IIIT gold medal in recognition of his outstanding academic performance.

Good performance

Programme gold medallists were Gautam Vepa (B.Tech, CSE); Priyadarshi Rath, (B.Tech, ECE); Gaurav Mishra, B.Tech in CSE and MS by Research in CSE; Mohit Sharma, M.Tech in CSE; Arvinder Singh, M.Tech in VLSI & CE and Kaustav Sengupta, M.Tech in Computer Aided Structural Engineering (CASE). The B.Tech best All-rounder award was presented jointly to Abhineet Jain and Soujanya Ponnapalli, both B.Tech in CSE.

Speaking on the occasion, Director IIIT-Hyderabad P.J. Narayanan said that research-led education with a special focus on undergraduate research at IIIT-Hyderabad has resulted in the institute contributing immensely to society through technology solutions as well as individuals who are equipped to solve problems.
