Footpath stretches from where encroachments were removed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation during a three-day drive ending on Monday, will be rebuilt or renovated within a week from now.
The construction of footpaths will be taken up by various agencies concerned including Hyderabad Metro Rail, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation, or by the GHMC Zonal Commissioners as the case may be, the Director, Enforcement & Vigilence, Vishwajeet Kampati, said.
Debris left by the demolition drive will also be cleared before laying new footpaths, or renovating the existing ones, he informed. Engineers have been asked to prepare estimates for re-laying the footpaths, a statement from the GHMC said.

During the drive, a total of 4,667 encroachments have been removed from 48 footpath stretches totalling to 127.5 kilometres. Of these, 4,117 were removed by the staff from Enforcement wing, while 550 were removed voluntarily by the encroachers.
Six teams were deployed, one for each zone, to carry out the operations. In a press conference organised on Monday, Commissioner, GHMC, B.Janardhan Reddy said the small vendors were not removed as part of the drive.
He said, one weekday will be devoted henceforth for demolition of illegal structures, and warned of legal action if the removed structures are rebuilt on the footpaths. The drive will continue till footpaths are free of all encroachments.

Responding to allegations of not extending the footpath clearance drive to the parts of Old City, Mr.Kampati said the areas were chosen through draw of lots, and there was no deliberate omission of any area.
