452 cases settled at Lok Adalat

In all 452 cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat held on district court premises here on Saturday.

Principal District and Sessions Judge cum Chairperson District Legal Services Authority K. Sujana inaugurated and supervised the settlements of criminal compoundable cases, excise offences, motor vehicle accident compensation, revenue and bank recovery cases.

In one motor accident case an amount of ₹2.65 crore was awarded to the bereaved families of persons died and victims sustained injuries.

Speaking on the occasion she said that Lok Adalat was a good platform to settle criminal compoundable cases and all types of civil cases because there would be no appeal against the awards passed in it.

Further, people who settled their disputes here could save money and time and secure peace, the Principal District Judge said.

Secretary, DLSA, S.V.P.Surya Chandra Kala, said that previously National Lok Adalat used to be held once on every second Saturday, now for this year the NALSA issued proceedings to conduct it on every alternate month.

Legal Services Authorities Act-1987 came into force to fulfill three main objectives. They are to conduct Lok Adalats for settling disputes between the parties, to conduct legal literacy camps in villages, to spread legal awareness among people and to provide legal aid to poor and deserved.

She also said that apart from the above the DLSA was providing legal assistance free of cost to the needy who approached it on any working day. She said that the DLSA was organizing legal aid clinics in all the villages on every Saturday.

Eighth additional district judge Mohemmad Nurullah Ghori, M. V. Harinath, senior civil judge, junior civil judges Mohammed Afroz Akther, Mohemmad Javeed Pasha, Mary Sara Danamma and G.Ramalingam and the Bar Association president P.Rajeshwar Reddy attended.
