November 26, 2013 12:52 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Against an initial estimate of 1,500 delegates, the Metropolis World Congress 2014 scheduled to be held in the city from Oct. 7 to 10, 2014, is now expected to be attended by around 2,000 delegates, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar said here on Monday. Speaking to presspersons after the weekly ‘Prajavani’ programme, the Commissioner said the civic body has started to make arrangements for the prestigious event which would have participation of delegates from across the globe.

“We are working out various logistics involved such as conferencing facilities and accommodation for such a large international gathering and hope to have an action plan in the next 15 to 20 days,” he said.

During his recent visit to Barcelona, the issues of agenda for the event and other details were discussed, he said adding that the Secretary General of Metropolis, Allex Saux, along with high power delegation would be visiting the city towards January-end to finalise various modalities and review the arrangements.

Asked about the issue of places of worship causing obstruction to traffic and pedestrians, Additional Commissioner (Planning) D. Ronald Rose said a high-powered committee was constituted by the government for a State-wide policy on the issue.

“From the civic body, we are also giving the inputs to that committee,” he said. Today, the Commissioner received 47 grievances during the ‘Prajavani’ programme, most of which pertained to town planning and some related to the engineering wing.
