Minister for Housing A. Indrakaran Reddy told the Assembly on Thursday that the government was examining the request of a large number of legislators to relax the norms for construction of double-bedroom houses on the beneficiaries’ own house sites.
He stated this while replying the debate on demands for Housing Department, wherein several legislators pointed out that lack of government lands in many villages and urban areas was delaying grounding of the scheme.
The legislators suggested that the progress of the scheme would be faster if the government allowed construction of 2BHK houses in the existing house sites of beneficiaries.

In all, the Assembly granted 11 demands on minorities welfare, school education, higher education, technical education, housing, social welfare, tribal welfare, backward classes welfare, women, child and disabled welfare, sports and youth services and medical and health with a total outlay of about ₹54,052 crore.
Legislators Jaffar Hussain, Jalagam Venkata Rao, Vemula Veeresham, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, R. Krishnaiah, V. Satish Kumar, G. Vittal Reddy, S. Rajaiah, M. Yadagiri Reddy and D. Manohar Reddy spoke on the demands and made several suggestions to the government. Ministers Md. Mahamood Ali, K. Srihari, J. Ramanna, G. Jagadish Reddy, A. Indrakaran Reddy, A. Chandulal, Tummala Nageswara Rao and C. Laxma Reddy replied to the debate.
Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Mr. Ramanna stated that the government was examining re-inclusion of 26 communities removed from the backward classes list.

He also stated that the government was also planning to provide civil services examination coaching to 500 candidates from backward classes in private coaching centres.
