One person was killed and two others sustained injuries when an Audi car reportedly driven by a person who was in an inebriated condition rammed two motorcycles before hitting a road divider at Banjara Hills late on Friday night. The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical, the police said.

Moghal Shaik Shahvali (29), an employee of a supermarket, was going home along with his friend, Umer Singh, on a motorcycle when the car hit them in front of Muffakham Jah Engineering College on Road No 2, Banjara Hills, a little after midnight. The driver and another person who were present in the car abandoned the vehicle and fled soon after the accident, the Banjara Hills police said.

“Shaik and Singh sustained serious injuries when the car rammed them. They were rushed to a private hospital for treatment where Shaik died of injuries, while Singh is undergoing treatment,” Banjara Hills SI, G Vinod Kumar, said. Another person who also sustained injuries was administered first aid and sent home, he added.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the car first hit the motorcycle and another bike and stopped after hitting the road divider. The police found that the car was registered in the name of a private construction company. “A police team went to the company and found the office locked. We are analysing the video footage collected from nearby CC TV cameras to ascertain what exactly happened and will identify those who were present in the car,” Mr. Kumar said.

He said that it is difficult to say if the driver was in an inebriated condition or not as they were not caught yet. “We can clarify this only after the driver is caught and a medical examination is done on him,” the SI said.

Based on a complaint from the victim’s family members the police registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death by rash or negligent act) and Section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by an act which endangers human life) of Indian Penal Code.

In a separate case at Banjara Hills in front of Hotel Taj Krishna, two cars were involved in a head on collision on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured in the incident. However, both the vehicles suffered extensive damage in the incident, the police said.
