Accused remanded in judicial custody

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly trying to rape a 75-year-old woman in Greater Noida’s Dankaur on Monday, the police said

They said the accused is the victim’s neighbour.

“The woman was sitting outside her house around 8 p.m. on Monday. The accused allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately, before dragging her inside the house and trying to rape her. When the victim started screaming, the accused fled the spot. He warned her against talking about the incident,” said a senior police officer.

However, the senior citizen told her son about the incident on Monday night, following which he filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested from the locality on Wednesday morning. He was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

“An FIR under IPC Sections 354A [offence of sexual harassment], 376 and 511 [attempt to rape] has been registered and the accused arrested,” said Dankaur police station SHO Farmood Ali Pundeer.
