Woman thrown from fourth floor for resisting rape attempt in Delhi’s Begumpur

The 20-year-old victim battling for life

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly thrown from the fourth floor of an under-construction building for resisting a rape bid by her 22-year-old colleague in outer Delhi’s Begumpur in the early hours of Friday.

The woman, who suffered major head injuries, is said to be in a coma and battling for life at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital.

Her family members suspect the role of more person in the incident. “We think more than one person was involved,” said her father.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rishi Pal said Rama Vihar resident Deepak had been arrested and a case under IPC Sections 307, 366, 511 and 376 lodged at the Begumpur police station.

Walking into a trap

The police said the victim and Deepak, who worked in a five-star hotel in Rohini, met two friends late on Thursday night and decided to head to Connaught Place. Deepak, who was allegedly drunk, told them that he would switch his motorcycle for a car at home, located close to the hotel, and drive them to Connaught Place.

Three of them boarded an auto-rickshaw and followed Deepak. He asked the friends to stay put in the auto-rickshaw, which was stopped near an under-construction building located at some distance from his house, while he and the victim returned with his car.

“He has confessed to taking the woman to an under-construction building and attempting to rape her. When she resisted his advances, he pushed her from the fourth floor of the building and fled the spot,” said a senior police officer. Locals informed the police, after which she was rushed to the hospital.
