Woman succumbs to swine flu, toll touches 3 in Gurgaon

Six confirmed cases so far, says Health Department

A 55-year-old woman suffering from swine flu died at a hospital here on Monday.

The resident of Ghaziabad was admitted to Medanta Hospital here on January 14. The deceased was a heart patient and said to be critical when she was admitted to the hospital. She was on ventilator.

The woman was a native of Bihar.

It is the third swine flu-related death in Gurgaon this season so far. In the first swine flu-related death reported at Medanta Hospital, the patient belonged to Jind district.

On January 17, a 57-year-old man died of swine flu at Artemis Hospital.

He was suffering from cough and fever when he first came to the hospital and was found positive for H1N1 virus. He was a resident of Sector 54.

According to the Health Department reports, six swine flu cases have been confirmed in Gurgaon so far.

Since the first of cases broke out in 2009, the disease has been regular in Gurgaon during the season, especially with the city hosting a large number of expats, many of whom visit for medical tourism.

“We have advised schools and offices not to allow patients with fever and cold. Also, they must ensure proper sanitation on their premises to avoid infections,” said Chief Medical Officer Pushpa Bishnoi.
