A 26-year-old woman and her four-year-old son were strangled to death allegedly by the woman’s live-in partner in North Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla on Saturday night. The accused is on the run.
The deceased have been identified as Ruksana and her son Shamsher. They stayed with one Salman in a jhuggi jhopri cluster near Daya Basti in Sarai Rohilla. While Ruksana was from Bihar, Salman hails from Uttar Pradesh He works as a factory labourer.
According to the police, Salman and Ruksana were staying together since the past one-and-a-half years. They met after Ruskana separated from her first husband, taking her son along with her.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma said the incident was preceded by a heated argument between the couple. Their neighbours heard the fight and intervened. “We suspect the incident took place late at night after dinner. Salman strangulated Ruksana and her son and then fled the house,” said Mr. Verma.
On Sunday morning, Ruksana’s sister Farzana, who stays in the same slum, found her and Shamsher dead inside the room. Salman was missing. She made a call to the police at about 7-30 am. The post-mortem of the bodies was conducted at the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital in North Delhi.
According to Farzana, jewellery worn by her sister and some other costly household items were missing and she suspected that Salman decamped with all that after murdering the mother-son duo.

A case of murder has been registered at the Sarai Rohilla police station.
“There is nothing which suggests that the couple frequently fought with each other. The trigger for the murder will be clear after Salman is apprehended and questioned,” said a police officer.
Several teams have been formed to nab Salman.
