Kin, cops suspect her husband’s involvement in the incident

A 30-year-old woman was shot at allegedly by two unidentified bike-borne assailants on a busy road in Dwarka Sector 12 on Thursday morning, the police said.

The victim, identified as Kiren, has sustained injuries on her neck and her condition is stated to be critical, a police officer said.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. at a roundabout near Radisson Blu Hotel when Kiren was returning home after dropping her son to school.Shewas shot at by two-bike borne men who were chasing her car, the police said.

The victim works as a part-time property and finance dealer, they said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was involved in a family dispute, the officer said, adding that the police are scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area where the incident took place.

A few detained

A few suspects have been detained in connection with the case, the police said.

An autorickshaw driver, who is an eyewitness in the case, said he thought it was the sound of a bullet motorcycle.

“Later when the [woman’s] car hit the divider, I realised that someone had fired from a gun. I saw two bike-borne assailants and the pillion rider was brandishing the gun while they were fleeing the spot,” he said.

Bullet injury on neck

Officials at Venkateshwar Hospital said that she was brought to the hospital around 8.15 a.m. with a bullet injury on the neck.

“The bullet was removed. Her condition is, however, critical and she is in ventilator,” the official said.

The family members of the victim and the police suspect the involvement of the her husband Varun Yadav in the incident.

Troubled marriage

“Kiren and Varun got married around 10 years ago and were having matrimonial issues. Since the last one-and-a-half-year, he [Varun] did not give a single penny to my sister due to which she had to start a small finance business in Dwarka,” said Pankaj Bajaj, the victim’s brother.

“He [Varun] had been ill-treating my sister. He used to stay away from the house without informing anyone. We suspect his involvement in the incident,” said the brother.

“My nephew, who is in Class IV, was not present in the car during the incident. Otherwise the results could have been more dangerous,” Mr. Bajaj added.

“Doctors have informed us that the condition of the woman is very critical. They have removed the bullet from her neck but she is not fit to give a statement,” said a senior police officer.
