Delhi’s West District, which had received and disposed off the “highest number” of online applications for issuance of various certificates in the city, was on Monday awarded by the Centre for its performance in the e-governance field.

The district was awarded based on its performance during the Digital India Week, conducted earlier this year, by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and IT. A selection panel chose the best performers based on data provided by the States and Union Territories. The west district administration was awarded for successfully implementing and disseminating many citizen friendly e-governance practices for better public service delivery.

Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad handed over the award to District Magistrate (West) Amit Satija and District Informatics Officer Sandeep Jain at an event at the India Habitat Centre here.

The district has implemented various e-governance projects including the most used e-district project which is used by citizens for obtaining various certificates like domicile, caste, income, birth etc, the Delhi government said.

It said that 30,898 applications were received by the west district on the e-district platform from a total of 1,96,554 applications, “which is 16 per cent of total applications” received across districts.
