UP DGP says the police is trying its best to ensure enforcement of law and order

The UP DGP, Sulkhan Singh, held a meeting with the Meerut Range SSPs in Greater Noida on Friday. Issuing directions with regard to the improvement of law and order in western UP, the DGP said that the State police was trying its best to ensure enforcement of law.

Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Love Kumar, SP (Rural) Suniti and other police officials from Hapur, Meerut and Ghaziabad attended the meeting in Surajpur.

Reacting to the Jewar gangrape case, the DGP said the police were working on the case, with the investigation expected to conclude soon. He, however, did not share details of the probe.

Last month, a family from Jewar was waylaid by a gang of robbers near the Yamuna Expressway. The robbers allegedly raped four women and killed a man.

The incident had drawn widespread criticism for the police.

The DGP, meanwhile, also directed the SSPs of four districts — Noida, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Bulandshahr — to ensure that FIRs are registered once a complainant approaches the police station.

Concerned about the behaviour of policemen with the public, he said, “The behaviour of police personnel must be ideal. I stress on the same thing.” The DGP also referred to an incident where a head constable was suspended for taking ₹1,500 from a train accident victim for admitting him to a hospital in Greater Noida.

Talking about the traffic situation in Noida, he said that more police personnel would be assigned to the traffic department here.

The DGP also added that he had received complaints regarding builder-buyer issues in Noida. According to him, if a builder forges documents while developing a housing society and sells flats, criminal cases will be lodged and stringent action be taken. However, he said that in cases of delayed possession or breach of agreement, home buyers could approach the court.

The DGP also refuted charges about Saharanpur’s Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad being framed by the police. Mr. Azad, a lawyer-turned-activist, was arrested by the UP Police in Himachal Pradesh on June 8 after being on the run following clashes between Thakurs and Dalits in Saharanpur last month. He has been charged with instigating violence and enmity through social media.
