A 23-year-old man with a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head and his father were apprehended by the Crime Branch on Tuesday, the police said.

Narayan alias Krishna and his father Kundu Swami were on the run for over a year since the alleged murder. The accused had barged into a relative’s home with a gang and assaulted the family, following which one of the victim succumbed to injuries.

Narayan and his father then fled across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab before they finally nabbed on Tuesday, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) G. Ram Gopal Naik.

“On July 8, 2016, a female resident of the JJ colony at Wazirpur reported that she was at home with her son, daughter, son-in-law and others when her relatives, Narayan and his father, and around eight to nine others barged in around 10 p.m. with knives and sticks,” said Dr. Naik.

According to the complainant, the accused began beating them. The victims were admitted to a hospital, where the woman’s 24-year-old son succumbed to injuries. Subsequent investigations revealed that Narayan and his father were absconding and both were declared proclaimed offenders by the court. A bounty of ₹25,000 was declared on Narayan’s head.

“A police team visited the crime spot, met the complainant and made enquiries in the locality where the accused lived. The team visited several places in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan, and conducted raids at different places in an effort to nab the accused,” said Dr. Naik.

On Tuesday, the team received a tip-off regarding the whereabouts of the accused. The team rushed to Nala Pusta Road near Bhalswa landfill and spotted the duo. They were overpowered and arrested.

Narayan allegedly told the police that his father and he ran away after the incident and hid in different parts of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.

Efforts are on to trace the other accused in this case, the officer added.
