“Monday started out like any normal day. We were shopping in Ansal Plaza Mall when suddenly we saw a mob coming towards us. They abused us and then started thrashing us. To protect ourselves, we rushed towards a showroom. The staff did not allow us to enter the shop,” said Precious Amalcima, who was one of four Africans attacked in Greater Noida on Monday.

Amalcima is studying political science from Noida International University.

Nightmarish experience

Imran, Igbi Amalu and Endurance Amarawa were the other three students who were attacked. Recalling their nightmarish experience, the students said that they had been living in the city for years but never imagined such treatment.

The students were admitted to the Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida. “All four are out of danger. Amalcima was discharged on Monday while Imran was discharged on Tuesday,” Dr. Sanil Kapoor of Kailash Hospital told

The Hindu .

“Amarawa had complained of severe head injury but in the CT scan no major head injury appeared. All were admitted in wards,” Mr. Kapoor said, adding that Amalu and Amarawa are likely to be discharged by Wednesday.

A video of Monday’s attack has gone viral which shows a man trying to protect himself as a mob repeatedly hits him with chairs and trash cans.

An eyewitness, who attended the candle march, told The Hindu on condition of anonymity that the march was initially peaceful but later some people gave it a different colour.

“Some persons joined and raised anti-Nigerian slogans. They tried to instigate others as well. A group of people noticed two Nigerians near Ansal Mall. One of them ran away but the other was brutally thrashed,” he said.
