Deposing before a local court here on Tuesday in the Junaid murder case, a vendor claimed he had not sold the knife that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime to accused Naresh Kumar.

Ravinder, a vendor at Shivaji Bridge railway station, deposed before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Y.S. Rathor saying he had not sold the knife used in the commission of the crime to the accused. He further told the court that he sold torches and not knives. Mr. Ravinder claimed that the police had forced him to sign blank papers.

The police had claimed that Naresh had bought the knife from Mr. Ravinder.

The vendor also told the judge that Naresh did not accompany the police team when they came to him. Advocate Nibrash Ahmed, who represents the complainant, said that the statement of Mr. Ravinder would not make any impact on the case.

Mr. Ahmed alleged that Ravinder had changed his statement under duress.

Besides Mr. Ravinder, Sub-Inspector, Haryana Railway Police, and doctors Yatender and Shiv Shankar were also examined by the court. Dr. Yatender had conducted Junaid’s post-mortem.

During cross-examination, defence lawyer Shekhar Anand Gupta, who represents accused Naresh, sought to know from Dr. Yatender whether death in the case could have been the result of negligence of attendants over not providing necessary medical aid available at the railway station but the judge declined the question.

Naresh’s brother Suresh alleged that the trial was not being conducted in a fair manner. He said the doctor had replied in the affirmative to the query of the defence lawyer on whether the death could have be caused due to negligence of attendants but the court declined the question.
