A teenaged girl from the United States was allegedly raped by her Facebook friend at a guest house in Sector 38 here earlier this week. A case has been registered against accused David, an African, at the Sadar Bazar police station.

According to the police, the victim, a 16-year-old girl, had befriended the accused on the social networking website a few months ago and the two had met on a few occasions.

On March 16, David took the girl to Balaji Guest House and allegedly raped her. “The girl sustained injuries during the rape and her mother took her to the AIIMS in Delhi where she was admitted on March 17. The hospital authorities then alerted the police in Gurgaon,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajesh Chechi.

Before the police reached the hospital, the victim had left against medical advice. She was then traced to her residence in Sector 47 where she stays on rent with her mother. A case was then registered on March 18 and efforts are on to arrest David.

“The two mobile phone numbers of the accused are switched off. The police are trying to trace him through his Facebook account and mobile phone numbers. The girl has failed to give any other details about him,” said Mr. Chechi. The victim has been staying with her mother who works in a private company. The family had moved to India six months ago.

The victim, in a statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, had purportedly told the court that she did not want to harm the accused.
