Two stations on Yellow Line get platform screen doors

Will aid in crowd management, security at the stations

Platform screen doors (PSDs) aimed at providing better crowd management at busy stations were made operational at the Chawri Bazar and Chandni Chowk metro stations on Wednesday, said officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

DMRC chief Mangu Singh launched the system from the control room at the Chandni Chowk station.

The PSDs at the two stations are among the first to be installed on the Yellow Line. Officials said that PSDs at four more stations, including Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate, are in the pipeline.

The DMRC added that this was the first time that PSDs were installed at operational stations.

The screen doors are also aimed at enhancing security. “The PSDs will help in better crowd management and at the same time prevent any untoward incidents in the metro, like people jumping or falling on the tracks,” said a senior DMRC official.

Apart from the Airport Express Line, PSDs are functional at the recently launched Pink Line stretch from Majlis Park to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus station and on the Magenta Line stretch between Kalkaji Mandir and Botanical Garden.
