Two persons, including the brother of a Noida-based Samajwadi Party leader, were injured in a clash at a Delhi Jal Board mining site in Jagatpuri village, Timarpur, in North Delhi on Sunday night.

The victims have been identified as Pramod Yadav (30) and Rahul (28). Pramod Yadav is the brother of Noida SP leader Rakesh Yadav.

According to the police, the incident took place around 7-30 p.m. on Sunday when Yadav was returning from Jagatpuri area with his four associates – Rahul, Mukesh, Satveer and Rakesh. When they reached near Hanuman Mandir in Timarpur, their car was intercepted by another car. Twelve persons came out from the car and opened fire on them.

During preliminary investigations, the police found that the firing was the result of a dispute over money transactions related to sand mining.

“Pramod Yadav had received a mining contract from the Delhi Jal Board and had further assigned work to some people. Those people had some issues related to payment of money and this caused the firing,” said a police officer.

“There was a sand dune inside the riverbed which was obstructing the flow of water supply. To get it removed, the Delhi Jal Board had given the mining contract to Pramod,” the officer added.

The police have arrested two people identified as Naveen Nagar and Bhagat Singh in the case.

According to the police, Naveen, a history sheeter, is the mastermind behind the firing.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accused.
