The Delhi High Court on Tuesday summoned Principal Secretary (Education) of the Directorate of Education of the Delhi Government on a contempt of court petition by a man accusing the Government of defying a Court order asking it to issue a circular to 15 schools within 24 hours to keep aside at least two seats for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) for their nursery admissions.
The Court asked the officer to appear before it on May 16, the next date of hearing.
During the pendency of a petition challenging clubbing of CWSN and children belonging to weaker sections of society for nursery admission, the Court had earlier directed the Delhi Government to ensure that a certain number of seats are set aside in the pre-primary and primary admission processes in 44 schools for admissions of such students.

When the matter was taken up for further hearing on May 7, the Delhi Government in its status report said that of the 44 schools, 18 had the infrastructure to cater to the educational needs of such children, 18 did not have the facilities while eight were yet to be inspected.
Passing an order after going through the status report, the Court had on that day directed the Government to issue within 24 hours a circular to 15 schools (eight which were to be inspected and seven of which, according to the petitioner in the matter, have the facilities to provide education to CWSN) to at least reserve two seats each for admissions of such children in nursery.
