Crime over an issue involving ₹5 lakh

Three persons were arrested for allegedly shooting a man dead and then attempting to burn the body and dump it in a gunny bag in north-east Delhi’s Seelampur. The crime was committed over an issue involving ₹5 lakh, the police said on Saturday.

‘Got him drunk’

The accused — Shareef alias Parvez (29), Khalid (41) and Sobi Khan alias Raja (20) — were arrested for their alleged involvement in killing Athar Abbas on October 4 after getting him drunk and shooting him at a point blank range. The alleged mastermind of the crime is Kahlid’s brother Nadeem, who is at large, the police said. They added that another accused, Gulfam, is also absconding.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) A.K. Singla said that Nadeem had borrowed ₹5 lakh from Mr. Abbas, a property dealer. When the victim insisted that the accused return the money, he refused and hatched a conspiracy to kill him instead, the police said.

‘Poured molten plastic’

On the night of the incident, the accused allegedly got Mr. Abbas drunk and shot him dead. They allegedly also poured molten plastic over his head to prevent identification of the body before putting it in a gunny bag.

Gulfam and Shareef then took the gunny bag on a two-wheeler to dump the body but were stopped by police officers. The accused managed to flee but dropped the bag, which was later found by the police.

The accused were identified and nabbed as the police managed to note down the registration number of the two-wheeler they were riding.
