Three detained for dacoities in Kochi

Joint operation conducted by Kerala Police and Delhi Police following a tip-off

Three youths were arrested from Seemapuri here following a tip-off on Wednesday in a joint operation by the Kerala Police and the Delhi Police.

The trio were allegedly involved in two dacoities reported in Kochi last year.

The police have recovered part of the looted gold jewellery. The dacoities took place on December 15 and 16 last year in separate houses in Kochi.

Two cases

In both cases, eight to nine men entered the houses and looted jewellery, cash, mobile phones and laptops after attacking the occupants, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar.

A team comprising officers from the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Kerala Police arrested 21-year-old Arshad, a resident of Kolkata and the alleged gang leader.

Sustained interrogation

“After sustained interrogation, he confessed to involvement in both cases. The others, Shahzad alias Bihari [30], and Roni [18], were also arrested. Some gold ornaments have been recovered,” the officer said in a statement.

Shahzad and Roni are residents of Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Roni told the police that he belongs to Myanmar but his identification is under investigation, the officer said.
