The victim was immediately sent for medical examination and a case registered at the police station. The victim works as a domestic help in the area while her boyfriend works as a peon at a school.

In her complaint, the victim stated that at 6.30 p.m. she had gone to Beri Waala Park with her friend when the three men reached there and started misbehaving with her. When her friend resisted, they beat him up and later took turns to rape her. The men then snatched a phone one of them was carrying and threw it somewhere in the park.

“We have registered a case under Sections 376D (gang rape), 323 (simple hurt) and 363 (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Investigations have been launched and we have formed several teams to track down the suspects,” said Madhur Verma, Delhi police spokesperson.

He added that a medical test was carried out which confirmed sexual assault. “The park is not properly lit and there are several dark patches. The park is quite large and after sunset there are hardly any visitors,” said a senior police official.

He added the victim and her friend said the accused did not have any weapons at the time of the incident. After the assault, all the accused fled. “We have rounded up several suspects in the case and the accused will be held soon,” added the official.
