Seek Bill to restore 200-point reservation

Several students and teachers on Monday protested outside the Ministry of Human Resource Development against “anti-reservation” department-wise roster being introduced in universities.

They demanded a Bill/ Ordinance to restore the 200-point reservation roster on the basis of college/university as a unit instead of taking the department as a unit.

The protesters said the move would effectively end reserved positions in faculty appointments in universities. They demanded that the government must bring out an ordinance, which would restore the 200-point roster that ensured constitutionally mandated reservation.

AISA national president Sucheta De said: “The new department-wise roster is in line with the anti-Dalit and anti-reservation stance of the government. It will effectively end the opportunities for teachers from SC/ST/ OBC communities in universities.”

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association has also written multiple times to the MHRD, requesting it to be in an Ordinance/Bill to ensure that reservation for teaching posts is not put to an end at universities.

A DU professor, Laxman Yadav, said: “We already know that the percentage of SC/ST and OBCs in educational institutions is much much below the percentage laid down the by the government. Now with this roster, Dalits and the OBCs will be completely washed away from the faculty positions of the universities.”
