Tamil drama fest from Friday

A three-day drama festival will be staged at Delhi Tamil Sangam and Avvai Tamil Sangam in Noida from this Friday by the T.V. Varadarajan drama troupe from Chennai.

On Friday, on behalf of Delhi Muthamizh Peravai, the troupe will stage ‘Endru Thaniyum Intha Sudhandhira Dhagam’.

Mythological satire

On Saturday, a social play, ‘Reel Estate’, will be staged at Avvai Tamil Sangam, and on Sunday the play ‘Endru Thaniyum Intha Sudhanthira Dhagam’ will be repeated at the same venue in Noida.

Mr. Varadarajan told

The Hindu on Wednesday, “We are staging Tamil theatre legend Cho’s ‘Endru Thaniyum intha Sudhandhira Dhagam’, penned and enacted by Cho and his troupe, Viveka Fine Arts, in 1971. We are proud to tell you that this is the first time Cho has extended permission to a troupe other than his own to enact a play written and staged by him. We inaugurated this play in March 2012. It has already completed 40 shows in a record time and is now heading for its golden jubilee.”

‘Endru Thaniyum Intha Sudhanthira Dhagam’ is a mythological satire and the scenes are set in heaven.

“With extraordinary wit and humour the play explores the introduction of democracy in heaven and the chaos and confusion that follow. The characters of Naradhar, Indiran, Yaman, Chitraguptan, Kuberan, Kuchelar, Vashishtar and Dhurvasar interact with Ovaiyar, Gandhi, Nehru, and Bharathi on various issues, particularly in the context of contemporary politics, and offer solutions,” said Mr. Varadarajan.

Middle class

The play ‘Reel Estate’ written by Vedham Puthithu Kannan deals with difficulties faced by the middle class in owning a house and the troubles they face in constructing a house and their happiness when they achieve it.
