Sushil Kumar is Delhi’s brand ambassador

Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Friday declared Olympic gold medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar as the brand ambassador of Delhi. Honouring eight sportspersons from Delhi, who won medals at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Mr. Jung announced to double up the sports budget of the Delhi Government for the current financial year. At a function at the Delhi Secretariat to felicitate Delhi heroes, Mr. Jung said, “I have been told the sports budget of the Delhi Government is around Rs. 22 crore. For this financial year, the budget will be doubled. If he agrees, I also declare Sushil Kumar as the brand ambassador of Delhi.”

Mr. Kumar , who was present at the function, instantly accepted the proposal stating “he is a product of Delhi”.

Mr. Jung felicitated six wrestlers and two shooters from the city, who won medals at Glasgow. While gold medalists Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Amit Dahiya received a cash reward of Rs. 14 lakh, silver medalists Bajrang Kumar, Rajiv Tomar and Shreyashi Singh were felicitated with a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh. Mr. Jung also handed over a cash award of Rs. 6 lakh to bronze medalists Manvjit Singh Sandhu and Pawan Kumar.
