Winds and light rain swept across the Capital on Sunday, continuing the unusual wet spell and low temperatures that have been experienced so far this month.

According to the Meteorological Department, on an average, five to six western disturbances affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of North-West India in March. Of these, only one or two interact with moisture-laden easterly wave.

However, this month, the fourth western disturbance interacted with the easterly wave, affecting North-West and Central India.

A western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level over Afghanistan and Pakistan, and an induced low pressure area over West Rajasthan and neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 2.1 km was the reason for the rain in the city, explained a weather department official. The department recorded 3.6 mm of rainfall on Sunday till 5.30 p.m.

According to the forecast for Monday, there will be a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of very light rain/ thundershowers in some areas with mist in the morning. Temperatures are expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 19.6 degrees, nine degrees below normal for this time of the year.
