Slow online portal dampens Day 2 of DU admissions

Few colleges unable to register admissions online after verification of documents

The second day of admissions under the first cut-off list in Delhi University had a smooth start with not a huge rush at the colleges. However, later in the day, some colleges complained about not being able to register admissions as the online portal was slow. The first cut-off list was released on June 23.

After verification of documents, colleges are required to acknowledge the admission by registering it on the online portal so that aspirants can proceed for payment. However, till afternoon institutions like Kirori Mal College (KMC) had difficulty accessing the portal.

Forms piling up

Officials at KMC said, “We have been unable to register the admissions since Saturday. In the morning we managed to register a few before the portal stopped working again. Forms are piling up while we are waiting for the server to become active.” Students waiting at KMC for admissions were left worried about the fate of their admissions.

“My documents have been verified but the online portal has still not been updated. I am very worried as I have already submitted my original documents and now if the admissions don’t happen then I will miss the deadline for the payment. I reached Delhi a week ago as the initial date for the release of the first cut-off list was June 20. I have been putting up in a hotel for all these days and all I can see right now is uncertainty,” said Akash Mishra, a DU aspirant from Jharkhand.

High turnout

Meanwhile, with just one day left before the admission closes under the first cut-off list, most colleges in north campus witnessed a high turnout with officials at KMC clearing approximately 300 admissions on Tuesday.

However, some colleges with a higher cut-off had a considerably lower number of students taking admission there. After the second day, the total number of admissions done at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College stood at 100 despite having a intake capacity of around 1,300 seats.

Cut-off likely to fall

Despite Motilal Nehru College having a 95% cut-off for B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons), the faculty from the department said that few students had joined.

“It is always a slow start here. The initial cut-offs do not bring a lot of students but the college gets crowded as the cut-offs lower,” said Kavita Sharma, senior administrative officer of the college.

The second cut-off list will be released on July 1. Colleges are expected to lower the cut-offs. While Wednesday is the deadline for admissions under the first cut-off list, payments can be made till noon on June 29.
