Two of them said to be critical

Six workers sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out in a garments factory in Khandsa industrial area here in the early hours of Sunday. Two of them are said to be serious.

The injured have been identified as Satyaprakash, Ravinder, Arun Kumar, Santosh, Chhote Lal and Kamlesh Kumar. All of them belong to Uttar Pradesh. While four of them escaped with 30-35% burns, the rest two sustained 70% burns. The duo with serious burns have been referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Janseva and Sanskritik Chetna Manch president Randhir Roy, who was instrumental in getting the injured admitted to hospital, said the workers were sleeping in a room in the basement of the factory after the duty hours when the fire broke out. “They had worked two hours extra till 2 a.m. after their regular duty hours got over and decided to stay back in a room in the basement before going back home in the morning. An hour later, the fire broke out apparently due to short-circuit while they were asleep. They were engulfed in the flames by the time they woke up,” said Mr. Roy.
