Panic gripped the shopkeepers at the Shankar Road market in Rajender Nagar after two bike-borne assailants shot dead two men, who were having tea at a shop.

While many shopkeepers closed their shops for the day, some closed for half-day and were back to business after lunch.

Sudhir, who works at an eatery near the incident spot, said, “We closed the shop after the firing in the morning. Everyone was in a state of panic after the incident and we thought it was better to close the shop and go home, and come back sometime later.”

No fear of police

A fruit seller near the spot said, “There is no fear of the police among people in Delhi. Someone just came on a bike and shot two people dead in daylight at a busy market place. I had seen the victims just 10 minutes before they were shot and in the next few minutes I saw them lying in a pool of blood. This is a very scary situation for us. The police should create fear of law in the minds of people, otherwise such things will keep happening.” It remained a topic of discussion for everyone for the entire day.
