Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday inspected the ongoing redevelopment work in Connaught Place to personally take stock of the situation and impress upon the need for early completion of the project.

Ms. Dikshit, who was accompanied among others by Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia, New Delhi Municipal Council Chairperson Archana Arora and Engineers India Limited CMD, took a round of almost all the blocks and pointed out the areas needing improvement. Stating that her Government was keen on restoring CP’s past glory, she said only after the works are completed, will her government inaugurate the fully refurbished and meticulously-revived Connaught Place.

Ms. Dikshit also inspected the utility tunnel, which has been laid in the middle circle of Delhi’s most famous commercial hub, and directed that service cables and utilities be shifted into the tunnel immediately. Taking note of the many hanging electrical wires, she said they should not be visible in Connaught Place. Since NDMC is getting the work done through Engineers India Limited, she instructed the civic agency to appropriately design the roadside kiosks and launch a special campaign to remove posters. Referring to the need for cleanliness and sanitation, the Chief Minister also directed the NDMC to properly maintain the public toilets.
