Shazia may soon be back in AAP

Going by the political developments in the Aam Aadmi Party, former member of its national executive, Shazia Ilmi, who had resigned due to “absence of internal democracy” may soon be back within the party fold. She may contest the Delhi Assembly polls as well.

Interestingly, even while resigning Ms. Ilmi had not ruled out the possibility of rejoining. According to senior AAP leaders, she met the party brass earlier this week after returning to India. The party chief Arvind Kejriwal had said he will persuade Ms. Ilmi to join the party again. The party national executive had at its meeting last month passed a unanimous resolution appealing to her to come back.

The party had also assigned Anjali Damania, the party’s Maharashtra unit convenor, and another party leader Lalita Ramdas, the task of meeting Ms. Ilmi and convincing her to reconsider her decision.

Sources told

The Hindu that Ms. Ilmi had spoken to Ms. Damania and she is expected to meet her in Mumbai and discuss the issue in detail.

“The party wants her back. Talks are going on and she may soon return to the party,” said a source.

Ms. Ilmi had resigned after she felt that she was being consistently sidelined by the party leadership.

“For instance, she wanted to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Delhi as she is one of the known party faces in the city, but she ended up getting ticket from a constituency where people did not even know her. She was upset that she was made to contest the election from Ghaziabad which led to her humiliating defeat. She lost her deposit,” said the source.
