Seven persons were injured on Saturday after a speeding DTC bus jumped a red light and hit a pole before ramming into a tourist bus at Kasturba Gandhi Marg. The police said that a case was registered and the driver has been arrested.

The DTC was coming from India Gate and going towards Connaught Place around 8 a.m. when the driver lost control and jumped the red light, the police said.

“As soon as he jumped the light, the bus hit a pole and then a tourist bus coming from the opposite side,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B. K. Singh. The tourist bus was carrying students from Coimbatore while the DTC bus was less crowded.

The police said that four students from the tourist bus and three DTC passengers suffered minor injuries. “They were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where they were given treatment and were discharged after a few hours,” said Mr. Singh, adding that the DTC driver was caught by locals and handed over to the police.

The police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the DTC driver at Barakhamba Road police station.

The accident also caused a traffic jam in the area for nearly an hour as a crane was needed to pick up the DTC bus from the spot.
