A day after violent protests were witnessed in many parts of Gautam Budh Nagar against the release of Padmaavat on January 25, the district administration on Monday has imposed Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, prohibiting assembly of four or more people at one place.

“Section 144 will be in force for the next two months in the district. This is a precautionary measure taken to maintain law and order,” said B.N. Singh, District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Many organisations protested against the film on Sunday. The protests, which began at Grand Venice Mall, Greater Noida, later spread to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and DND toll plaza. Hundreds of Karni Sena members vandalised the DND toll plaza.

After facing a backlash over the protests in the district, the city police filed cases against 40 named and 800 unidentified persons at different police stations.

“Several cases under relevant sections have been filed at Surajpur, Kasana, Dadri and many other police stations against Karni Sena men. We have arrested 12 people from the spot and detained many others for creating nuisance. Extra police forces are being deployed across the city to maintain peace,” said Suniti, Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
