Sanitation workers on warpath

May 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Around 100 sanitation workers of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Monday locked the office of the Delhi Municipal Solid Waste Solutions Ltd.’s office in Model Town against non-payment of their salaries by the corporation.

The employees, who are from fourth grade, were demanding immediate release of salary for the month of April, safety measures for sanitation workers along with other facilities. “We have written to the MCD Commissioner, PK Gupta, several times but have not got any response. Despite protesting on April 25 and convening a meeting by the MCD where we were present, nothing has been done,” said a senior member of Dilli Kamghar Parishad.

Their salaries were promised to be disbursed by May 7, but till now they have not got their dues, claim the workers. “We will close other depots as well if our demands are not met. We will throw litter at the DC’s office, MCD Commissioner’s office and at Kejriwal’s home,” said another member.
