Taking a leaf out of the Aam Aadmi Party-pioneered concept of procuring campaign funds from the electorate, the Delhi Congress managed to collect donations amounting close to Rs.1 lakh on Sunday.
Former MLA Sajjan Kumar, who was the first to donate Rs.101 to the kitty, led the second phase of the grand old party’s ‘Aakrosh Rally’ with its chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma in tow at West Delhi’s Bindapur Matiala Road
“It is a humble neighbourhood where daily-wagers and vegetable vendors stay. But they are so fed up with the government and local leadership that they came forward in hordes to donate whatever they could through Rs.10 and Rs.20 notes to our campaign,” said Mr. Sharma.

He also alleged that the local ‘ineffectual’ Bharatiya Janata Party government, in collusion with the power companies, was forcing people to increase their load capacity, and as a result, the local residents were getting inflated power bills in addition to being kept out of the purview of food security ration cards.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kumar alleged that during the past 11 months, ‘the clock of development work in Delhi had been set back by 11 years’.
“Projects such as the Bindapur DDA flats and monorail to connect Mohan Garden, sanctioned by the previous Congress Government in Delhi, have been buried under files; the latter has now become a mere pipe dream for the residents of the area,” Mr. Kumar said.
