The Supreme Council’s decision to include one of its members in the interview panel of the admissions commission is to safeguard the “right of the Christian minority for 50% seats”, chairman of the council and the governing body said on Tuesday.
In a statement on the college’s website, chairman Warris K. Masih said that on March 12 the Supreme Council decided that “..for the admissions for the academic year 2019-2020 to the college, there would be a member of the governing body nominated by the SC to oversee the admission process.”
Defending the move, he said that the Council has the power to address and oversee all matters affecting the Christian character of the college. Adding that the decision would not impact the standard of education or of the students who would be admitted to college.

The Supreme Council is a subset of the governing body of the college and comprises members of the Church of North India. Teachers opposing the move maintain that the Council has no jurisdiction over administration of the college.
