Rise in incidents of people falling on Metro tracks

Delhi Metro has seen nearly 30 per cent rise in the number of incidents of persons falling on the tracks in the last two years.

As against 31 persons falling on Delhi Metro track in 2013-14, the number of such incidents rose to 40 in 2015-16, an increase of 29.03 per cent.

“Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) has informed that they have found 31, 34 and 40 cases of persons falling on the metro track during the years 2013—14, 2014—15 and 2015—16 respectively,” Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. To prevent such incidents, the Minister, however, said Metro Rail Corporations have taken various steps including installation of large number of CCTV cameras and setting up platform screen doors (PSD) for heavily crowded stations and metro lines.

Other measures include instructing CISF/security staff and station controllers of each station to keep vigil and alert passengers and regular announcements for passengers’ safety.
