Retired CRPF officer commits suicide at his Munirka residence

August 24, 2014 11:00 am | Updated 11:00 am IST - NEW DELHI:

He was apparently depressed over his illness

A 78-year-old retired commandant with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head inside his house in Munirka, South Delhi.

According to the police, Brij Bhushan locked himself up inside the bathroom of his house. There he shot himself with his revolver on Saturday morning.

“Upon hearing the gun-shot, the victim’s family members rushed to the bathroom where Mr. Bhushan had locked himself and broke open the door. On finding him lying in a pool of blood, they called up the Police Control Room around 9-30 a.m. By the time the police reached the spot, the victim was already dead. The body was then taken to a hospital for post-mortem,” said a police officer.

No suicide note has been recovered from the possession of the deceased. His family members, however, told the police that Mr. Bhushan was depressed because he was not keeping well for the last few days.

“Prima facie it seems that Mr. Bhushan committed suicide because of his illness. However, we are investigating to find out if there was some other reason which drove him to take the extreme step,” the officer added.

Mr. Bhushan stayed in Vasant Enclave in Munirka village with his family.
