‘Resist culture of violence’

January 10, 2019 01:53 am | Updated 01:53 am IST - New Delhi

Close to 50 civil society groups and over 150 activists on Wednesday appealed to the nation ‘to resist and confront the growing culture of violence facing the country’ through a national campaign, called ‘India Unites for Non-Violence and Harmony’, being organised on January 30 to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.

The collective has called upon citizens across the country to observe one-minute silence at 5.17 p.m. on January 30, the exact time when Gandhiji was assassinated, and take a pledge of non-violence and harmony. Various events like peace rallies, awareness programmes and public meetings will also be held in the run up to the national campaign.
