Reflective collars to save strays at night

To prevent injuries and deaths on account of road accidents at night

Stepping up for strays here to ensure they are not injured or killed during accidents at night, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi recently launched a new programme with non-government organisation Dhyan Foundation’s “reflective collar belts”.

The organisation already takes care of over 15,000 stray, injured, rescued, sick and abandoned animals through its countrywide network of volunteers.

Punjab initiative

However, Delhi isn’t the first city to get these belts. The NGO had launched the reflective collar belts in Punjab in November, with over 6,000 reflective collar belts put on cows across the State.

The foundation claimed it can manufacture about five lakh belts per month with the help of its volunteers and is ready with separate belts for dogs and cows.

The initiative will be rolled out from 75 “save a cow points” located in Kaushambi, Gurgaon, Vasant Kunj, Madipur, Indirapuram, Inderpuri, Chhatarpur, Model Town, Azadpur, New Rajender Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Ghitorni and Noida. Water containers have also placed at these points for cows, bulls and other animals.
