Gurmehar Kaur files a complaint with DCW

Police detaining ABVP activists after their clash with AISA students during a protest at Ramjas college in Delhi University on Wednesday.

Days after she took a stand against RSS affiliated students union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), after violence broke out in Ramjas college, Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur on Monday afternoon filed a complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) against rape threats made to her on Twitter.

Ms. Gaur, a Kargil martyr's daughter, handed over a list of Twitter handles from which she received the threats.

"She has received rape and death threats on Twitter. I have personally spoken to the Police Commissioner to take action against these trolls. It is disturbing that online trolling, especially rape threats to women, is rampant. I expect the police will set an example by arresting these trolls," said DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal.

Ms. Maliwal has written a letter to the Police Commissioner on the issue.

Ms. Kaur, along with other DU students, started an online protest against the Ramjas College violence. She held a placard with the message: "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me #StudentsAgainstABVP (sic)."
