Four days after the Delhi Government’s Forest Department carried out a demolition drive in South Delhi’s Rangpuri, Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Friday met the affected families and assured them of immediate relief and said the government will consider providing long-term solutions to their problems.

A statement from the L-G House said Mr. Jung, who has taken a serious view of the demolitions at Rangpuri Pahari particularly in the wake of the impending winter, will look into the matter once immediate succour is provided to the families.

Officials were instructed to provide tents to the elderly, women and children first. So far, 70 families have been provided tents, said officials. “Durries and blankets have been distributed, and on-site toilet facilities have become operational, drinking water and food packets were being made available on site,” the statement said.
