“Was hit by police bullet”

Two teenagers, Arjun and Ajeet, received bullet injuries during the clashes on Saturday.

Recalling the afternoon when riots hit Trilokpuri, a 16-year-old boy who was injured during the clash claims he was injured by a bullet fired by the policemen. The police officers, however, denied this and have been maintaining from the first day that they did not fire at the locals.

Two teenagers, Arjun and Ajeet, received bullet injuries during the clashes on Saturday. While Arjun is still battling for life at a local hospital, Ajeet was discharged on Thursday and is out of danger.

The Hindu at his house, Ajeet said: “My friend Arjun and I were coming back home from our tuition around 11 a.m. on Saturday. When we reached the intersection of Block 27 and 28, we saw people pelting stones from the side of Block 28. There was a large gathering of policemen to control them. I saw some of them shooting at the crowd. Before I could understand anything, I heard my friend Arjun scream “Amma”. When I went closer, I saw he had been hit by a bullet.”

“I did not know what to do so I ran towards a house in Block 27 and hid myself. After a minute I realised that blood was oozing out of my waist. People around me said I had been hit by a bullet. They called my parents and I was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. My friend was also taken to the hospital by some locals,” he added.

Ajeet’s medico legal report states that he had a 1x1 cm wound on his waist. According to forensic experts, the size of injury caused by a bullet fired from a police weapon and that from a country-made weapon (which the police claim the locals used) is different. They, however, refused to confirm about Ajeet’s injury as factors like the distance from where the bullet is fired also matter while ascertaining the cause.

Ajeet and Arjun, both neighbours, have been living in Trilokpuri area for a long time. Their families migrated to Delhi from a village in Tamil Nadu twenty years ago.
