Proposed hike in taxes opposed

January 09, 2019 02:04 am | Updated 02:04 am IST - New Delhi

South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee chairperson Shikaha Rai said the hike in property tax and professional tax proposed by the Commissioner in his budget speech will not be accepted during finalisation of the budget at a meeting on Tuesday.

The proposals made by various sub-committees of the SDMC will now be placed alongside proposals made by the Commissioner during his presentation of the revised budget estimates in December 2018.

At the time, the Commissioner had proposed hikes in property tax rates of all categories of residential properties as well as a professional tax that would help reduce the corporation’s dependence on the state government, as recommended by various Delhi Finance Commissions.
