June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

A West Delhi property dealer was abducted on Wednesday for refusing to hand over a plot of land despite receiving the payment. He was, however, rescued within hours. According to the police, two of the three men involved in Ravi Deshwal’s abduction had been arrested.

“The abductors had made a ransom demand of Rs. 16 lakh to the victim’s wife. To avenge the alleged cheating, the abductors beat him up after locking him in a room,” said a senior police officer.

The police apprehended two of Mr. Deshwal’s abductors, later identified as Birju and Kuldeep, at Rohini’s Sector-4, while their accomplice Kake managed to escape. Mr. Deshwal was rescued and two mobile phones and a Santro car, allegedly used in the crime, were seized.

“Interrogation of the accused revealed that Birju had planned to buy a plot of land for Rs. 6 lakh through Mr. Deshwal, a resident of Janakpuri. Though he paid Rs. 4 lakh , Mr. Deshwal did not book the plot in his name. When Birju demanded his money back, Mr. Deshwal handed him cheques worth Rs. 4 lakh, which bounced,” said the officer. “Birju decided to take revenge and hatched the abduction plan. He lured the two other suspects to be part of the plan by promising them a good share of the ransom amount,” the officer added.
