The ongoing installation of LED street lights in east Delhi continues to face problems of delay and poor-quality fixtures, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) Standing Committee members complained on Thursday.
August deadline
The project to install one lakh LED lights by the end of August is going to miss its deadline, the official incharge informed the committee.

Gurjit Kaur, a BJP councillor, said: “Forget the delays, the lights that have been installed also are of poor quality. We keep getting complaints from residents and no one comes to fix them.”
Body formed in July
In July, given the delays, a committee was formed to oversee the work. The committee had directed to have at least 100 LED lights in each ward. However, the official said that could not be done due to a lack of stock.

Questions were also raised on the official handling of the matter.
Rekha Tyagi, an AAP councillor, said “Even if you do not have stock, at least send your engineers to fix the broken lights.”
The CEO of the company, which has been given the tender, met EDMC Commissioner Ranbir Singh in the last week of July and committed to complete at least 30,000 lights by the end of August, when the project was due.
However, even that target is unlikely to be reached, the official said.
The Commissioner said, “We will give the company one last chance after which the contract will be taken away and given for re-tendering.”
